Xinhu Zheng 郑心湖

Xinhu Zheng is an Assistant Professor in the Intelligent Transportation Thrust of the Systems Hub, with a joint appointment in the Internet of Things Thrust of the Information Hub, at The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (Guangzhou). He has been selected for the National Young Talent Program. He received his B.S. degree from Zhejiang University and his Ph.D. in Electrical and Computer Engineering from the University of Minnesota, Twin Cities.

His current research interests include autonomous driving, connected intelligence and embodied AI. He has published more than 80 papers in peer-reviewed journals and conferences, including Nature Electronics, IEEE Transactions on Pattern Analysis and Machine Intelligence, IEEE Internet of Things Journal, IEEE Transactions on Intelligent Transportation Systems, IEEE Transactions on Intelligent Vehicles, CVPR, ICCV, NeurIPS and ICRA.

His honors include the First Prize of the Natural Science Award of the Chinese Association of Automation (2023), the China Engineering Frontier Outstanding Young Scholar (2024), First Place in the 2025 China Intelligent Vehicle Future Challenge, the IEEE RCAR 2026 Best Student Paper Award, and the Second Prize in the Embodied Intelligence and Robotics Track of the Shenzhi Cup at WAIC 2026 (first among university teams). He was also selected into the Guangdong “Pearl River Talent Plan” (Innovation and Entrepreneurship Team).

He leads OMEGA Lab (Omnimodal Multi-Embodiment Generalist Agents).

Understanding traffic scenes, anticipating intent and motion, and making decisions for autonomous vehicles.
Connected intelligence
Learning and coordination across connected vehicles, infrastructure and intelligent systems.
Embodied AI
Omnimodal perception, reasoning and action for generalist agents across physical embodiments.
